resourcED is about creating and sustaining community while supporting the independent local food movement, and central to that mission is feeding the healthcare workers on the front lines and others in need of nourishment right here in Westchester and northern NYC.
In order to quickly mobilize efforts around feeding the broader community at this time of need, the Blue Hill team developed the resourcED Donation Box, which includes healthy and nutritious lunches for 10 recipients each. As with all of the resourcED boxes, these meals are made with high-quality ingredients from Stone Barns and other regional farms featured through our program. At a time when so much feels bleak, we hope these meals bring joy and comfort.
We’re so grateful to all those who have purchased the Donation Box and enabled us to provide more than 1,000 meals by the end of this week to the following organizations.
Phelps Hospital
The staff at Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow is working incredibly hard around the clock during this crisis. As Chief of Critical Care, Dr. John DePetrillo noted, “We are fighting a war against an invisible enemy.” Lunches have been delivered to all of the clinical units at Phelps.
Public School of the Tarrytowns
The Public School of the Tarrytowns serves the communities of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow and has 2,800 students, more than half of whom receive free or reduced-price meals. We will deliver kid-friendly lunches to the district each day this week, feeding more than 500 children.
Montefiore Hospital/Project Bravo
Project Bravo Food Pantry provides a community-based outreach program supporting the neediest populations in the Bronx and combating high rates of HIV among the LGBTQ community and at-risk families. In response to the global coronavirus pandemic, Project Bravo is providing grab and go meals for frontline healthcare workers confronting food insecurity. Project BRAVO’s Food Pantry offers health and nutrition support services to food insecure, low income, at-risk individuals and families.
Northern Westchester Hospital
The meals we prepared for Northern Westchester Hospital go to the front line caregivers who are leading the fight of COVID-19. The nurses, physicians and support teams are going through a tremendous amount of pressure to provide high quality healthcare during a global pandemic. Good quality food is always a source of comfort and provides relief as they step away for a few moments to catch their breath during a shift.
Tarrytown Housing
Tarrytown Municipal Housing Authority is a public housing agency in Tarrytown. In addition to providing housing to the community, Tarrytown Housing facilitates food distribution to members of the community. Next week, Stone Barns will deliver 100 prepared lunches that will serve seniors and families with children in the community.
Open Door Family Medical Centers
Open Door provides primary health care and human services at affordable prices to the community. With five health centers in Westchester County, they serve nearly 60,000 patients and address issues with health and wellbeing, housing insecurity, food insecurity and more. We delivered 100 meals to Open Door’s staff, who continue to work tirelessly to meet critical needs in our community.
