Eco Hike: Winter Birding

Join our Deputy Director of Ecology, Elijah Goodwin, for a winter bird walk through the Rockefeller State Park Preserve ecosystem. We will focus on the bird life in and around our grassland ecosystem and forest edges, particularly on the birds that utilize our grasslands for food and shelter in the winter. We’ll look for wintering eastern bluebirds and hawks, and we’ll scan the winter geese flocks for rare species. You’ll gain some bird identification skills and learn about how the agricultural habitat supports our winter visitors and year-round residents. Bring your binoculars!

Accessibility Guidelines: This hour-long tour will include long walks over varied topography. We do not recommend this program for children. Please wear good walking shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty, as well as long sleeves and pants. Please expect elevation gains, uneven terrain, and, in the event of winter weather, the possibility of unplowed or untreated trails.

Unless otherwise noted, all Stone Barns Center programs take place rain or shine! We have a 72-hour cancellation policy for all tickets. For a refund, please contact us 72 hours prior to your visit at info@stonebarnscenter.org.
